The Power Behind Real-Time Push Notifications Using Webhooks
The audience would be:
- Developers looking to integrate with many services in a flexible, general way
- Developers looking to add real-time data feeds to their application
- Anyone who wants to learnwhat powerful and awesome things you can do with real-time push notifications
People will learn why we have APIs (application programming interfaces, in this context, for web services); the downsides of polling an API; how webhooks provide value, flexibility, and power to your clients; how to get started with webhooks; several live demos of webhooks in action; and what workflows and possibilities are unlocked with these real-time notifications.
It fits into Denver Startup Week because startups work smarter, not harder. Webhooks allow developers to bring that concept to their applications as well. And everyone will still benefit from seeing how you can tie services your company already uses (Dropbox, Github, Google, Evernote, Slack, etc) together to do valuable things, quickly.
I've worked to implement webhooks in my company's cloud service, and they've been in production for the last year and a half. We've built several fun and useful integrations, as well as helped clients do the same. I'd love to share what I've learned, so others have an easier time getting started with real-time notifications on web services. It's not some impossible problem that only billion dollar companies can create and use. Startups could start using them today! That, and how much I love talking about it, is what makes it awesome.
