Opportunity Zones (”OZs”) provide federal tax incentives for investments in state-designated low-income urban and rural communities by delaying tax on reinvested capital gains and forgiving tax on new capital gains. OZs provide a huge opportunity for Startups to give back to the community while at the same time accessing capital specifically targeted for OZ companies and taking advantage of substantial benefits from tax-free capital gains on assets, including intellectual property.
