Leadership Spotlight Series Panel: Fostering Innovation

The 2nd half of Monday's Leadership Spotlight Series will be hosted by the Colorado Innovation Network (COIN), a public-private partnership/catalyst for economic prosperity. Innovation hubs are sprouting around the globe, empowering the entrepreneurial movement from Chicago to Jerusalem and Tokyo to Cairo. Join the debate as founders from physical and virtual networks discuss how the right mix of programs, networks and infrastructure can help startups succeed and foster innovation in your city, state, country or company. A Silicon Valley veteran with a track record of scaling emerging growth companies, turning around organizations and embedding entrepreneurial-grade talent into multi-national corporations to reboot their growth and innovation, Dean DeBiase has led private and public corporations and Fortune 500 subsidiaries in Chief Executive, Chairman and lead director roles. He is Chairman of AKTA, an Inc 500 user experience design firm; Reboot Partners, a growth acceleration group for multi-nationals; Startup Partners, helping emerging growth companies disrupt, scale and grow faster through partnerships with global corporations; and Boardroom Innovation, enabling the next-generation of digitally-savvy corporate directors develop innovative growth initiatives.

An award winning innovator, Dean has built leading brands in media, social/mobile commerce, games and entertainment, retail and distribution, technology, consumer electronics, Cable TV and Internet services industries—and led global organizations through startup, expansion, turnaround, roll-up, spin-out, M&A and IPO operating phases. He’s been chief executive of a dozen organizations including, TNS Media, acquired by WPP; Autoweb, which he took public and The Imagination Network, which he sold to AOL.

He is a founding board member of the largest incubators in the United States, 1871 and ADMCi a design thinking school; a Senior KIN Fellow and Lecturer of Innovation and Entrepreneurship, at Kellogg School of Management; a Board Leadership Fellow, National Association of Corporate Directors; co-author of the best-selling book The Big Moo with Seth Godin and Malcolm Gladwell; and he is developing the popular Dancing with Startups program—which partners large corporations with stealth startups, incubators & accelerators—into a video and book series.

Michelle Hadwiger, Executive Director, Colorado Innovation Network
Michelle Hadwiger has a dual role as both the Executive Director of the Colorado Innovation Network (COIN) and the Director of Corporate Development at the Colorado Office of Economic Development and International Trade (OEDIT). In her OEDIT role, she oversees a team of industry development managers who work to proactively recruit and retain companies within the state's 14 key industries. Michelle also leads the strategy development of the state's seven Advanced Industries, as well as oversees the development of a talent agenda for Colorado.

Under Michelle's leadership, her team has facilitated the creation of more than 15,000 net new jobs with an average wage of $76,000, and has successfully recruited and/or retained companies such as Visa, Woodward, Advanced Circuits, Lockheed Martin Corp., Ardent Mills, Charles Schwab and Surrey Satellites.

Under her leadership as Executive Director, COIN has nearly doubled sponsorship dollars, curated a delegation of 275 global thought leaders, and partnered with over 30 organizations. In addition, Michelle has led a team of three COIN staff members.

Michelle’s extensive experience in economic development includes all segments of the field. She began her work in 2003 working for a public-private partnership that promoted economic development in southeast Denver. She also worked at a local municipality where she was responsible real estate recruitment and real estate development.
