Miguel Buenrostro

Producer / Creative Director / Ruinologist / Space Curator

Miguel Buenrostro born in Tijuana Baja California started portraying abandoned spaces 4 years ago, when he and others formed “Komala Films” an independent production company Miguel’s purpose is to register an architectural memoir of the controversial region along with Mexican filmmakers, architects and artists.

After several projects in the downtown district, he designed an integration program to re-occupy spaces with creative ecosystems and a creative economy, serving the city by giving new functional purposes to different.

In 2012 Miguel received the Festival Interzona prize for best cultural project , he has been mentioned in important media publications such as The New York Times, Aeon Magazine in London, Travel + Leisure Magazine. Al jazeera

Since Reactivando Espacios (reactivating spaces) started implementing DIY urban tactics, Miguel has helped promote many abandoned plazas with more than 30 establishments on each space and has collaborated with more than 20 artists and professionals during his reactivation projects, giving birth to creative enterprises and programs.
Miguel has directed a series of short documentary films, works as location manager for film productions, music for film, Awareness campaigns & co-funded The Hub Stn the first bi-national Co-Working space inside an old bus station which has helped improved baja’s new creative and tech scene.
