As people and times change, it's important to realize as leaders that the way we work may need to change as well. Let's take some time to discuss what it looks like when you take boundaries and constraints out of engineering teams and focus on where people are passionate. Is it important to hire someone that knows Ruby or is it important to hire a problem solver who understands computers to adapt to team needs over time? How about aesthetics, someone who knows CSS or someone who loves design and can adapt to different languages guided by passion? When you remove the decisions from leadership and you instead allow your team to collectively make decisions how does this effect things like engagement and overall happiness for your teams?
