In 2016, 77 percent of startup investment in the United States—and half of all start-up investment in the world—went to three states: Massachusetts, New York, and California.

Raising money will never be easy, but if you aren’t located in California or the Northeast, there seem to be less roads to the promised land. But is this necessarily true? Do you have to be in Silicon Valley to raise capital?
