Designing in Virtual Reality
Join Deloitte Digital for an evening of real drinks, real snacks, and virtual reality! Come play on an Oculus Rift, HTC Vive, and Google Cardboard, exploring the experiences and technologies that differentiate today’s virtual reality platforms. We will talk about current technological limitations of this immersive new world, and discuss evolving design methodology.
There will be 4 talks starting at 5:30:
Talk 1 - Technology
Kris will be going through the common technologies that will be used to consume VR experiences. He will also provide a brief overview of the different types of experiences each device can support.
Talk 2 – UI / HCI
Fritz will be talking about ergonomic considerations we should make while designing for VR. What we have gotten right and where we could improve upon today’s digital experiences.
Ryan will be exploring the visual user interfaces of past, present and future vr experiences from a practical and aesthetic perspective. He’ll introduce some common terms and best practices as well as looking forward to what the platform is capable of and how UI design can help evolve the vr experience.
Talk 3 – Prototyping
Jared will be talking about how to approach prototyping in VR. He will also discuss VR design process and lessons learned while designing a demo project.
Note: We are going to have signups on a first come first serve basis for an HTC Vive. Please come early to get on the signup list if you would like to demo it. Otherwise we will have Google Cardboards, Gear VR and a Hololens.
