Catalyzing the Global Women’s Movement Through The Beyond Our Borders Model

Ted-talk style session where participants will learn how Beyond Our Borders (BOB) started as a unique concept by one woman, Jane Ragle, to show the interconnectedness between women’s issues locally, nationally and globally. Beyond Our Borders is a Special Interest Fund, housed at the Women’s Foundation of Colorado (WFCO). BOB extends philanthropy to help women & girls across the globe reach economic security. BOB started with 2 members 19 years ago and now has a steady membership of over 40 members, with a special contributing category for those less than 40 years of age to ensure it continually attracts the next generation of donors.

The mission of BOB is to create a world where women have comprehensive human rights, are able to reach their full potential and contribute as equal partners in their communities. Nearly $1 million has been donated by this Fund to women and girl serving organizations in underserved regions of the world, while also growing an endowment to over $350,000.

BOB has taken on special projects outside of its philanthropic giving. It sponsored the first Gender Lens Investing Conference in North America in 2015 and actively engages with the Women’s Foundation of Colorado to encourage gender leans investing of its endowment. The members also led a coalition of 50 immigrant and refugee serving organizations in CO to produce a training website to tap into the growing community response to migrant needs.

Participants will learn about the BOB story and why its replication in other Women's Funds would be valuable. A how to replicate toolkit will be shared and provided.
