Tech for Good: Lessons of a Startup Nonprofit

Applying entrepreneurial principles to a social justice cause is different and doable. ALIGHT (Alliance to Lead Impact in Global Human Trafficking) is a startup nonprofit using innovative technology to achieve its mission to unlock a fresh start for human trafficking survivors. Our “customers” are often marginalized members of society like runaway youth, single mothers, immigrants and others that traffickers target. This means special considerations are needed for ethical design and implementation. This case study goes through the steps from idea to founding, validation and growth of an organization with a multi-disciplinary team composed of professionals from law, technology and human trafficking to offer a needed and context-appropriate product.

Speakers:

  • Marianna Kosharovsky - Founder and Executive Director of ALIGHT
  • Lucy Stribley - ALIGHT Board Member and Senior VP of Flyreel
  • Robert Lantz - Attorney in ALIGHT mobilized legal network and Partner at Coan, Payton & Payne, LLC
