The Disposable Society vs. Non-Disposable Thinking (Building a Brand with Impact)

Our disposable environment often leads to thinking that is equally disposable. The world doesn’t need any more short-term thinking. The world needs more individuals and companies with a point of view that extends past Tuesday. The greatest companies in the world are not profit driven, they’re purpose driven. From Nike and Patagonia to Tesla and AirBnB, to be successful as a brand today, you have to stand for something bigger than yourself. Bigger than your product. That philosophy of purposeful thinking is what drives the conviction behind everything you do.

In this presentation, we will focus on how some of the most successful purpose-driven brands market themselves, how to identify your company’s purpose and how living it day after day can keep you on a clear path to long-term success.

Purpose is the conviction that what you stand for matters. It is the sharp stick in the eye of conventional thinking. Time to sharpen your pencils.

About The Speakers:

Jeff Martin | Executive Creative Director | Karsh Hagan

Before the phrase “Collect experiences, not things" became popular, Jeff was trying to do just that. Over the years, he’s been an adventure photographer, Army officer, fly fishing guide, mountain bike racer, martial arts instructor, and father of two amazing, teenage girls, (which may be the scariest thing he’s done to date).

As the Executive Creative Director of Karsh Hagan in Denver, CO, Jeff leads the creative strategy and execution with multiple creative teams on all the agency’s work including Colorado Tourism, The Mountain Collective, Quiznos, Aspen/Snowmass, and TDAmeritrade among others.

Prior to Karsh Hagan, Jeff was the Managing Director of the Creative Content Group at Washington, DC based GMMB, the world’s foremost Cause Marketing Firm and lead agency on Obama for America.

Throughout his career, Jeff has been lucky enough to work with some of the most purpose-driven brands, organizations, social causes and political leaders in the world.

His creative work has earned him a spot on Adweek Magazine’s Creative All-Star Team and his photography and design work has been recognized by every major advertising awards competition in the world.

Dave Cook is Karsh Hagan's Executive Creative Director. Dave's career has taken him around the globe, from his original home in Newcastle, England, to Cape Town, New York City, and Washington, D.C. Dave is a craft-driven professional who thrives on big ideas, collaboration, and mentoring others. Throughout his 30+ years in the industry, his resume represents some of the most famous marketing and advertising agencies in the world. Top global firms like Crispin Porter + Bogusky, Mad Dogs & Englishman, and Chiat Day, all benefited from Dave's big ideas. Dave has created campaigns for exclusive brands ranging from Virgin Atlantic to Audi to the United Nations and will bring those best practices and insights to elevate what is possible for Karsh Hagan's Colorado and Denver clients.
